Although not particularly noted for its fine food, Amsterdam does boast an excellent diversity of ethnic restaurants - from Tibetan to Indonesian and Kurdistan. Additionally, as with all major cities, there is no shortage of fast food bars and street vendors. (ideal for when the munchies strike.)
After coffee (normally strong and black), beer (pils) is the drink in Amsterdam. It is generally served in small glasses with a very large frothing head. It is possible to visit the Heineken brewery Mon-Fri at 9.30,11.00,1pm & 2.30 for a guided tour and free beer.
